Challenge to Readers – Nominations called for inspiring Australian politicians
In my previous entry, I mentioned how many inspiring, admirable and wonderful people you get to meet through being involved in politics. I was about to write about another I met in New Zealand, when it occurred to me that sadly not too many of these people are other politicians. I am keen not to reinforce a Lathamesque perception in readers that politics is a waste of time, so I will write something soon about some MPs I do find admirable in different ways.

In the meantime, I hereby launch a call for readers of this blog to nominate examples of Australian politicians they find or have found inspiring. In order to make it a bit less predictable, it can’t be a Democrat or Green politician, but they can be a state or territory, as well as a federal MP.

Just post your nominations in the comments section – or if you prefer to do it non-publicly, you can email it to
senator.bartlett@aph.gov.au. I’ll compile a selection for a future post after I’ve got a few suggestions (assuming I get some suggestions that is). So here’s your chance to strike a blow against cynicism – say something positive about an Australian politician!
